Tug boats celebrated by sounding their horns as the gargantuan Ever Given was dislodged on Monday after blocking the Suez Canal, a major global trade route, for the best part of a week. Had the vessel remained lodged, the alternative route around the Cape of Good Hope would have added just under an additional 10 days to any other vessel’s journey time. Despite ongoing serious congestion and expected delays, this development means that a positive and speedy resolution to the disruption can now be found.

After a series of failed attempts to reposition the 400m vessel, success was found with a combination of tug boats pulling for days on end and a dredger that removed sand and slit from underneath the bows of the vessel.
