Portugal is currently going through a widespread crisis of strikes affecting many sectors across the nation. Logistics is not exempt from these strikes and they are having a negative impact on the flow of importing and exporting.

Strikes at the Portuguese ports look to continue until the early new year, currently with an anticipated date of 01/01/2019. As we currently understand waiting times for ships calling a Setubal and Lisbon will be increasing to an expected 4 days. We are also noticing that traffic congestion at Leixoes port is increasing as shipping lines are diverting their vessels due to the constrictions being seen in the ports to the south. Even with the early year date for the strikes to cease being advised, there currently are no meetings planned between the opposing parties involved, and as such the unfortunate circumstances have no immediate short-term solution on the horizon.

Though we cannot change the circumstances surrounding the strikes, we will look into every alternative available in order to reduce the impact of the disruption as much as possible.
